The garage is one of those places in the home that can become easily cluttered and packed with items. Aside from cars, there are tools, decorations, parts, and other things that make their way to the garage. There’s so much space, but people hardly utilize it correctly. The easiest ways to maximize garage storage space are by using the following tips.
Maximize Garage Storage by Going Vertical
Many garages have items stored on the ground, which is not a good use of space. These items can easily be stores in cabinets placed around the garage and improve storage and organization dramatically. The cabinets can purchased or if anyone has a bit of carpentry skills, they can build them from scratch.
The walls can also be used for storage options in garages. Wall organizers can be attached to the walls of the garage with hooks and items will be kept away from the floor. These organizers can be arranged on the walls according to specific categories, such as alphabetical order or usage.
Don’t Forget to Utilize the Ceiling
Even though there is an abundance of wall space, for some, it will eventually run out. There’s still another section of the garage that can be utilized for storage. The ceiling can house items when racks are mounted to it. These racks are especially useful for storing items that won’t be accessed for quite a while, such as Christmas decorations and other seasonal items. The racks must be sturdy and installed properly to ensure that they don’t fall down and damage anything or injure anyone beneath them.
Use Folding Tables Where Able
Garages are often use as workshops for woodwork or crafting, and many of them have a work bench. While a work bench is useful, it can take up unnecessary space when it isn’t in use. Instead, a folding work bench can be used that fills the same role as a regular one, while having the ability to fold up and be stored away when it isn’t needed. All it takes is a little wall mounting for the work bench to be put in place.
For small metal parts like screws, bolts, and nuts, a magnetic board in the garage will be a useful storage tool. The metal parts will stick to the board and stay there until they need to be used. It also allows these tools to be quickly accessed, which is an advantage when using the garage as a workshop.
Work spaces in the garage don’t have to be limited to one area. Mobile areas set on wheels allow the work to be taken anywhere, and at the same time give more room for other items to be stored in certain locations in the garage. The mobile station can also double as a table for tools.
Seasonal Items Can Be Put In Hardest To Reach Areas
Seasonal item storage can benefit from being placed in boxes placed on adjustable shelves. As the items are needed, they can be moved around and swap positions with other boxes that aren’t needed. Shelves made from wooden strips with plastic containers on top are a relatively inexpensive way of accomplishing this.
When homeowners maximize garage storage space, the items that are already in the garage can be properly stored and make way for new items.
