Since I have been keto for a year now, I get asked a lot of questions by readers, friends and family about ways to make staying on keto easier. I have discovered a few tips and tricks along the way. Here are some of the best keto kitchen gadgets I have found to make meal planning easier. And let’s face it, the easier it is to stick to, the better your results.
Keto Food Storage to Help with Meal Planning
Meal planning on keto is key. I have found that when I don’t have a plan, I am more likely to eat sugar or go over my total carb count. I meal prep in bulk for the week for breakfasts and lunches, and need appropriate containers for each. I am also a little lazy so I make sure everything I buy is dishwasher and microwave safe.
Keto can also get expensive, so I try to buy things in bulk where I can. Once I get home from the grocery store, I spend some time preparing the food, chopping, sorting, etc and package them in much smaller containers. These extra steps saves me time and money, and I am all about saving money. And with these keto kitchen gadgets, I can do both.
3-Compartment Bento Lunch Box Containers
I love these and have bought them more than once! They are great for portion control and keep food separated. The containers are safe for microwave, freezer, dishwasher and nest together to save space when not in use.
4 Compartment Snack Box Food Containers
I buy things like nuts, cheeses, and meats in larger quantities, then prepare them in these containers. Not only does it help with my portion control, but it saves money and the environment by buying less single serve packages.
Black 2 Compartment with Lid Bento Box 20pk
These are a lifesaver! I buy the 2 and 3 compartment ones, so I can have variety. Since there is 2o in a box, I split them with my mom and we each got 10-2 compartment and 10- 3 compartment boxes. They are high quality and just like the ones nicer restaurants use to send leftovers home.
Black 3 Compartment with Lid Bento Box 20pk
Like I said above, these are my favorite. Of course like everything I buy for my keto meal planning, these are dishwasher and microwave safe. Also they are cheap enough that if they get gross, you can toss them out.
Reusable Silicone Food Storage Bags
I have been trying to be a better human on the planet and waste where I can. When I noticed how many sandwich bags I was going through, I started looking for something more sustainable. So far these are working great! They have measurements on the bag, you can write in them and wash it off, they are watertight, and stand up. Plus they have the little circle on the end so you can hang or clip them to things.
Reusable Mesh Produce Bags
While I was looking for the sandwich bags above, I found these, reusable mesh produce bags. They are machine washable and color coded, which appeals to my OCD self. Sometimes I forget to take them to the store, but I always transfer food to them and have noticed they last longer when I use them.
On keto, vegetables are a large part of what I eat, so keeping the veggies healthy is important. The longer I can go between grocery store the happier I am. I am all for things that save me time and/or money.
Foodsaver Vacuum Sealer
Every house needs one of these, no matter what you eat. When I go to the trouble of cooking in bulk, I want to make sure my food does not go to waste with freezer burn. I use it for bulk marinara sauce, when I buy meats in large quantities, farm fresh veggies, and leftovers.
Wide-Mouth Jar Kit
I found this gem a few years ago, for when I go on a salad benge. It’s a food sealer for mason jars! So you can meal prep lettuce and most salad products and they will last a week in the fridge without spoiler. Salads in a jar are great no matter what your diet plan is, and can be worked to suit your needs. Just search salad in a jar in Pinterest and you will be inspired.
Keto Kitchen Gadgets for Fat Bombs
Keto fat bombs are an easy and tasty way to get your fats in daily. They range from savory like sausage cheese balls to sweet ones like cinnamon bombs. Some you can just roll, but some you need cute molds to shape them. Check out Perfect Keto, they have tons of great keto fat bomb recipes.
Snack Size Silicone Candy Molds for Fat Bombs
These remind me of Reese Peanut Butter Cup minis, and make great fat bomb molds. Since they are silicone, things will slide out of them easily and they are perfect for small sized fat bombs.
40 Cavity Square Baking Molds
These square molds are good for medium size fat bombs. Fat bombs pop out easily in the silicone mold, and this one will work for recipes that produce a medium size, liquid recipe.
Keto Meal Planning Time Savers
The keto diet takes a little more planning than other diets, but with the results I have seen it is worth the effort. But as all of you full time mommas know, every second counts. So while the next two items are not keto kitchen gadgets exactly, they definitely save me time with meal planning.
Blank Cookbook
I don’t know how you keep your recipes organized, but between printing them out and taking screenshots mine were a mess. So now, anytime I make something twice, it gets wrote down in here. I bought 2 actually, one for regular recipes, and one just for keto foods. It’s great quality and super cute.
Keto Cheat Sheet Magnets
These keto cheat sheets are a lifesaver when I am meal planning. I used to keep a close eye on my macros, but now I can wing it more. These are great reminders for when I forget, and they are magnets so they live in my fridge.
Water Bottles to Help You Drink More
Water is essential to losing weight on keto. To flush the toxins out, your body MUST have adequate hydration. With so many options, water bottles are a keto kitchen gadget must. Here are a few of my favorite water bottles depending on what’s going on in my life.
Hidrate Spark 3
I won’t lie, this one is pricey, but it’s my favorite. I have the Hidrate Spark 3 in hot pink, though I wish they had a purple one. Since it’s a smart water bottle it does a better job of keeping me on track by reminding me to drink throughout the day. I held off buying this one for a few months because of the price, but after the success I have had with it, I wish I would have just bought first and not bought some of the other medium priced ones that sucked.
Bottom Loading Fruit Infuser Water Bottle
I tried a few different infuser bottles, but they all loaded the fruit from the top. This left the last few sips without flavor. This bottle loads from the bottom so that every last drop of water is flavored. It also made it easy to refill. I can usually get 2-3 refills out of each fruit load to get the most out of my money. Just be careful what you are loading the bottle with, not all fruit is keto friendly.
Cute Motivational Fitness Bottles
I don’t take my fancy water bottle everywhere, so I needed some cheaper ones to haul around. So I found these, because if I am going to buy something, it might as well be cute!
Coldest Water Bottle
My mom does keto with me, which I totally recommend a keto buddy! She likes drinking cold water, so I found this water bottle for her and it keeps the water cold longer than the plain bottles.
Gallon Water Bottle
If you need the visual to keep you motivated during the day, this one holds a whole gallon of water. I have two of these for days I know I may not have a chance to refill. The timeline on it is a good reminder of how far I need to be throughout the day.
Fun Blender Bottle
I avoided blender bottles for the longest time thinking it wouldn’t make a difference but man was I wrong. I use them a lot when I am drinking my ketones and it helps get everything dissolved quicker.
Keto Kitchen Gadgets for Breakfasts
I don’t adhere to the “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” thing, especially after reading Dr. Fung’s book. I follow intermittent fasting as well as keto, but I rotate my schedules according to my weekly plans and meal planning so sometimes I eat breakfast, sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I eat breakfast for dinner!
Silicone Cupcake Baking Pan
Not all muffin pans are created equal. I make a lot of eggs in these for work days and if I didn’t spray my old pan well enough the eggs stuck. This one is perfect because the molds bend and you can pop the eggs right out. Plus you use less oil this way.
Bacon Bin Grease Strainer and Storage
The bacon is definitely a perk of the keto diet, bacon does make everything better, but now I found I have bacon grease building up. I got tired of the coffee can solution so I set out and found this cute holder. It strains the “bits” out and gives me a storage to let it cool in. Then I can reuse it as needed or through it away once it’s cool.
Keto Kitchen Gadgets
I am a kitchen gadget queen, my kitchen is full of them. Some of them are more trouble than than the space they take up in the kitchen like the yolk saver or banana slicer. Below are a few of the keto kitchen gadgets I use every week.
Avocado Slicer
Okay don’t get mad but I am not a fan of avocados, but I do make guacamole often and use this tool a lot. It cuts easy so you can half the avocado and scoops it out quickly.
Silicone Egg Cooker
Do you boil eggs alot? The worst part is peeling them! They don’t make the prettiest deviled eggs, but if you make a lot of chicken or chef salads you will love these. And look super cute bobbing in the pot of boiling water.
Multi-Purpose Box Cheese Grater
Just like muffin pans, not all box cheese graters are created equal. I had the flat one for awhile because it takes up less space and I didn’t use it that often. Now that I am on keto, I eat more cheese and have found not only does it cost less to grate my own cheese but it melts better than the pre-shredded.
This one was my choice because it’s sturdy and has a cover. The cover was important to me because those little graters are sharp and I didn’t want them cutting up other things in the gadget drawer.
Condiment and Pickle Fork
This one was a gag gift from a friend, but I ended up using it a lot so jokes on them. My littlest one loves pickles and this was a great solution to keep his dirty fingers out of my pickle jar.
Herb Saver
Herbs and spices become increasingly important on keto when you take away sugar and flavor ingredient. If you can use fresh ones, it definitely makes a difference. This herb saver is a great way to keep them longer and fresher in the fridge. Basil and cilantro are two I use a lot.
5 Blade Herb Scissors Set
If you are using fresh herbs, these scissors make chopping and cutting them up so much easier.
Garlic Press Rocker
I actually had this before my keto life. I use garlic a lot! This press makes chopping garlic fast and is easier to use than the traditional press.
Veggie Spiral Slicer
Spaghetti squash is a great alternative when your craving pasta, and making your own is super easy with the right tools.
Cauliflower Prep Tool
Miss rice? Cauliflower rice is a great alternative for fried rice, chinese food, mexican food, what ever you need. This tool makes chopping it up faster.
I will probably add to this list as the year goes on, but what are some of your favorite kitchen gadgets for the keto diet?
